Meet the team
THE SCIENCE OXFORD NEXT TEAM ARE ALL TALENTED, TRAINED, CRB CHECK INDIVIDUALS WITH A PASSION FOR ENTHUSING YOUNG PEOPLE ABOUT SCIENCE & ENTERPRISE
Bridget Holligan - Head of Learning
Bridget has a degree in chemistry and a masters in science communication. She spent 3 years at the Exploratory science centre in Bristol - working with visitors and schools, presenting planetarium shows and running their chemistry activities (which involved lots of bubbles, explosions and liquid nitrogen). She has been with Science Oxford since 1996 and has had the opportunity to work on all sorts of exciting projects, but has gradually developed her expertise in developing and managing programmes that are designed to support science teachers and inspire young people with the exciting opportunities that science can provide.
Natalie Ford - Schools Programme Manager
Natalie has a degree in physics and a MSc in structural engineering and has previously worked as a researcher at the Transport Research Laboratory and then at the University of Surrey.
Always having been in the habit of talking about how amazing science is to anyone who would stay still long enough, she did a variety of volunteer work in science communication before deciding to make a career of it. She has now worked with schools and families for over 10 years and developed a wide range of science based shows and workshops as well as running sessions for teachers.
Brian Macken - Science Projects Officer
Brian was born in Ireland and trained in theoretical physics and computer science in university. After completing a Masters in Science Communication he then went on to work with a puppet to teach energy conservation, and on a bus to teach science.
Brian joined Science Oxford in 2008 and has since made paper airplanes to look at flight, figured out how to defeat superheroes using science, and watched cartoons to learn about gravity. He enjoys his job.
Cathy Sturrock - STEM Resources Manager
Cathy has a degree in Applied Biology and a background in molecular biology research for a global healthcare company. Her interest in science communication began with her involvement in the company’s school engagement programme which led to a full time role creating and delivering science workshops for primary and secondary aged children.
Cathy joined Science Oxford in 2009 where she works with teachers and STEM organisations to design, deliver and advise on curriculum enhancing activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
