Crest Awards
Science Oxford Next is the regional co-ordinator for CREST Awards, a UK-wide award scheme run by the British Science Association, which is a way of accrediting student projects that demonstrate creativity in science and technology. The scheme encourages students to demonstrate independent learning, apply their work to a ‘real world’ context and communicate what they do to others.
- BRONZE AWARDS are typically completed by 11-14 year olds and require 10 hours of project work. This level of award has been successfully completed by students attending an after school science and engineering club.
- SILVER AWARDS are typically completed by 14-16 year olds and require 30-40 hours of project work. Working with a mentor from industry or research is recommended.
- GOLD AWARDS are typically completed by 16+ year olds and require 100 hours of project work. They require students to work with a mentor from industry or research and are often linked to a Nuffield Science Bursary or Engineering Education Scheme project.

More Information
CREST Award holders also have an opportunity to attend regional fairs. The best projects on display at these events are invited to the annual national celebration where they are eligible for a range of prestigious prizes.
We can offer advice on the choice of project and assist in the sourcing of mentors through the STEM Ambassadors programme. We can also run ‘CREST in a Day’ events for schools wanting to enable a significant number of students to achieve a Bronze Award – please contact us to discuss details and prices.
